Description

Dance of Tears is the story of the Khmer Classical Dance Troupe and their journey from the killing fields of Cambodia, to a refugee camp in Thailand, and finally to Wheaton, Maryland. In 1970, President Nixon ordered the bombing of Cambodia. In 1979, President Carter was determined to preserve Cambodian culture in America. A Cambodian dance group, sponsored by the National Council for the Arts, is followed by the cameras in the early 1980's. Once members of the Royal Ballet of Cambodia, this group of immigrants share their story of war, loss, and the fight to preserve their Cambodian roots.
