Description
Duke Ellington's Washington tells the story of the influential African American community that flourished in Washington, DC's U Street neighborhood in the early 20th century. This segregated, yet socio-economically diverse community nurtured Ellington's shining talents, and reflected the self-respect with which he carried himself. The documentary discusses the decline of the U Street area and its reemergence, the establishment of the Duke Ellington School for the Arts in Georgetown, and the efforts of Manna Inc. to improve affordable housing access in DC.
