In celebration of 75 years of providing services for young woman of color, the Dr. Ionia Rollin Whipper home, originally known as 'The Lend-A-Hand Club,' showed the important role this facility played in the Washington DC community filled with colored women in need. In a time when young women especial those who were unwed, uneducated and neglected would go there to seek assistance with child birth, medical attention, shelter from abuse, and educational support. The history of Dr. Ionia Whipper home shows how her legacy to take care and pay attention to these young women still continues to be a success. Today the Whipper Home is a contemporary symbol of Dr. Ionia Whipper's medical achievements and in order to continue providing the same services to women in need, they're in need of more support from the DC community.
