Description
The Neighborhood Farm Initiative interviewed members of Washington, DC's growing urban agriculture community to document the history of growing food in the city.
Baumgartner was raised in Elkton, KY where his family owned a tobacco farm. Baumgartner helped on the farm from an early age. In 1988, Baumgartner left Kentucky for a job in Washington, DC where he has grown fruits and vegetables on some scale ever since.
After about 14 years in DC, Baumgartner joined the Melvin Hazen community garden. In the interview, he notes that gardening gives him time to get away from work, and to think.
