The Neighborhood Farm Initiative interviewed members of Washington, DC's growing urban agriculture community to document the history of growing food in the city.
Madden grew up in Waltham, MA where her father maintained a small garden behind their single family home. She attended Tufts University, and completed her graduate studies at the University of Minnesota. She and her husband moved to Washington, DC and bought a house on Capitol Hill where she kept a very small garden.
After she and her husband divorced, Madden moved to Takoma Park, MD where she had the space to develop a large and varied garden.
