The Architectural Legacy of Mount Pleasant Street
Subject
History
Architecture
Description
This survey of the Mount Pleasant commercial corridor includes a narrative architectural history of the area covering 1901-1938, a database of building permits, and a "chain of title" database. The narrative describes the early uses of many buildings that still line Mount Pleasant Street, and the database tracks the owners of those structures from the time of their building. Organized chronologically, information on the types of businesses which occupied Mount Pleasant storefronts reveals the changing culture of the neighborhood, as well as the wants and the needs of its residents.
The narrative report is available here, and the databases are located at www.historicmountpleasant.org.
