Description
In 2008, the DC Community Heritage Project symposium focused on developing historic neighborhood walking tours. The panel discussions in the first part of the program feature representatives from Cultural Tourism DC, Mainstreet Anacostia, Rainbow History, Shaw Mainstreets, and other DC cultural organizations. The panelists discuss theories, methods, and motives for developing tours, and engaging audiences. The second part of the program is a twilight walking tour of DC's Chinatown neighborhood. Goethe-Institut representative William Gilcher discusses creating a tour in an area with a rich and diverse history, and effectively relating the environment to a particular theme or niche.
