    A Lesson Before Dying

Be A Part of the Story!

Big Read 2010 Kicks off in Washington, DC April 16th

The Humanities Council of Washington, DC, in partnership with the DC Public Library are proud to present the 2010 Washington, DC Big Read. This year, we are encouraging all Washingtonians to read Ernest Gaines' classic literary masterpiece, Lessons Before Dying. The novel recounts the story of a young man who returns home to cajun country to teach. Not long after his arrival, the teacher visits a black youth on death row for a crime he didn't commit, and together they come to understand the heroism of resisting.
